Satellite communications are increasingly being used by marine vessels in
order to access online connectivity with the onshore world. For several
years the Nera WorldPhone has been a success for both light marine market
and the commercial shipping market to access voice, low speed data and fax
services through the spot-beam satellite services. For vessels operating
on deep-sea global routes, the new Nera F77, based on Inmarsat Fleet 77
services would be the preferred installation. The larger Nera F77 provides
an "office at sea" service, with high-speed data capacity and serving
broad communications needs (including voice, data, Internet, fax)
available through Inmarsat's global- as well as spot beams. Inmarsat are
planning to launch the new Fleet F33 early in 2003 to fill the gap between
the two existing services, and once again Nera will be providing terminal
equipment for this service, with the launch of the Nera F33 terminal.

"Always on" - keep connected at no additional cost
With the Nera Video Communicator (NVC)
briefcase-sized mobile video conferencing solution, you can hold video
meetings at anywhere, anytime via satellite or terrestrial ISDN. It is
uniquely designed to go with the Nera
WorldCommunicator (NWC), a
portable satellite data terminal that provides Inmarsat 64 kbps/ISDN
worldwide.
High Quality Video Encoding Algorithm
The NVC uses H.264, the latest video encoding jointly developed by ITU and
MPEG Group. H.264 provides a far more efficient mechanism for compression
and decompression of motion video. It requires less bandwidth and for
video conferencing, H.264 uses 50% of the bandwidth needed by previous
video format to achieve the same quality of video. It is also backward
compatible with earlier video format.
Saving Of Airtime Charges
With the reduced bandwidth requirement, there will be savings of airtime
costs since a 64 kbps link is able to provide the same quality as a 128
kbps link. There will also be a reduction of equipment costs, as less
communication equipment is needed.
Securing Your Communication Link NVC provides embedded and easy to use standard based encryption
technology. It supports point-to-point and multipoint calls with DES and
AES encryption via automatic key generation and exchange.
Able To Fit The NWC Into The Same Box Of The NVC
The NVC is specially designed with users’ needs in mind. It is able to
house the NWC and other accompanying accessories within the same box. This
is to ease transportation and deployment for field work. It is compact and
greatly enhance portability. It has inbuilt battery to support remote
deployment with the NWC.
Possible Usage of The NVC
The NVC is an ideal video conferencing solution designed for field and
outdoor usage. Transmitting of video images in remote areas is a key
requirement for journalists, military personnel and other field users like
those working in the oil & gas industries. Others in the emergency rescue
and disaster recovery areas will also find that the NVC together with the
NWC is a combination of convenience.
Other Applications Features
The system has moveable picture-in-picture that allows users to view a
small image of themselves. It can store up to 100 names and video or
telephone numbers in the global directory. It supports multi-language
including English, Chinese, Japanese, Norwegian and many others. It also
